Wellington Brass Band Takes on The Wrekin

On Saturday evening, members and friends of Wellington Brass Band swapped the rehearsal room for walking boots as we took on our Sunset Wrekin Walk, carrying our instruments all the way to the summit to play as the sun went down.

Well… that was the plan!

By the time we reached the top, The Wrekin had disappeared into the clouds and, as you can see from the photos, there certainly wasn’t a sunset to be seen! But the weather didn’t dampen our spirits. We set up at the summit and played anyway, and it turned into a fantastic evening and a great experience for everyone involved.

A huge thank you must go to all the players who made the climb with their instruments, with a special mention for Archie, who carried his bass all the way to the top – no mean feat!

We also had some brilliant audience participation when we played YMCA, with everyone joining in with the famous moves. It’s not every day you get to do the YMCA in the clouds at the top of The Wrekin!

We’d like to thank everyone who joined us for the walk, supported us, listened to us play and donated towards the band. Events like this are not only important fundraisers, but also a brilliant opportunity for us to spend time together away from rehearsals and performances.

There might not have been a sunset, but standing in the clouds on top of The Wrekin, playing together and having a laugh certainly made for a memorable evening.

In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we’re already thinking about doing it all over again at Christmas. Christmas music at the summit of The Wrekin sounds like a great idea to us – although we might need a few more layers!

Watch this space… Wellington Brass Band may be heading back up The Wrekin for Christmas!
