Positive Performance at Midlands Regionals

Wellington (Telford) Brass Band took to the stage yesterday at the Midlands Regional Brass Band Championships, competing in the Second Section against a strong field of bands from across the region.

The band finished 10th overall in what proved to be a very tough competition, with an extremely high standard throughout the section. Congratulations go to Harborough, who were worthy winners following an outstanding performance.

Despite the result, the band were very happy with their performance, taking away plenty of positives as well as a few things to work on moving forward. This year marks the band’s first appearance back in the Second Section following promotion, and it is widely recognised as a particularly competitive level.

The contest also came during a period of transition for the band, with David Nicholson having been with the band for just three months as Musical Director. The band were delighted that the adjudicators’ comments were very positive, giving encouragement that the band is moving in the right direction under David’s leadership.

After the results were announced, spirits remained high and the band celebrated together with a well-earned curry in Wellington, rounding off an enjoyable and rewarding day.

The band would also like to thank the organisers of the Midlands Regional Championships for a smoothly run contest and an excellent venue, which made the day a great experience for everyone involved.

Next stop for the band is ConsTest on 11th April, where Wellington (Telford) Brass Band will perform the revised version of Variations on Laudate Dominum as part of the innovative online brass band contest.

With plenty learned and lots of positives to build on, it’s onwards and upwards for Wellington (Telford) Brass Band, and with David Nicholson at the helm, there are exciting times ahead. 🎺
