
We are pleased to introduce David Nicholson our Musical Director of the Wellington (Telford) Band. With a rich background in brass band music that spans both the Salvation Army and the wider brass band community, David brings a wealth of experience and passion to this role.
Beginning his musical journey in the Salvation Army, David was a member of the Croydon Citadel Band for an impressive 20 years under the guidance of Bandmaster Major Leslie Condon. This foundational experience was further enriched by a five-year tenure on the Euphonium section of the International Staff Band, where he played under the direction of Major Robert Redhead.
David’s musical leadership skills were honed during a successful 10-year period as Bandmaster of the Birmingham Citadel Band, where he led the ensemble through numerous performances, including appearances at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Festival Hall in London, and Symphony Hall in Birmingham.
David has previously led bands across all sections including St. Austell Town Band, City of Coventry Brass and Redruth Town Band, David’s tenure at Redruth included a noteworthy victory at the South West Area Contest, leading to promotion from the 3rd to the 2nd Section and securing a place at the National Finals in 2022.
Beyond his musical interests, David serves as a Director and Trustee for the prestigious Black Dyke Band, focusing on media, marketing, and IT enablement.
Professionally, David is a global IT executive with expertise in large-scale digital transformation programs. After recently retiring from full-time corporate employment, he continues to engage in the field as an independent management consultant.
With a deep commitment to the brass band tradition and a vision for the future, David Nicholson is poised to lead the Wellington (Telford) Band into a new era of musical excellence. We look forward to the exciting journey ahead under his direction.
